Today Is the Day!

on Mon, 01/21/2013 - 19:00

As I watch the, "2013 Inauguration" I am present to the following traits: resilience, commitment, generosity and grace. President Barak Obama has dealt with challenges against his heritage, integrity and character.  His commitment to all of the American people is clear, consistent and generous.  Michelle Obama is a beautiful example of grace.  She exudes it and provides it for all of us.  Together, they model partnership, hope and incredible love.

Go With The Flow

on Wed, 01/16/2013 - 08:23

We've all heard or said , "Go with the flow" before and yet, it's profound.  As I was going through my completion ritual for 2012 and creating 2013, I found myself at my favorite beach, Stinson beach.  I was struck by the simplicity of the tide coming in and going out.  It was magical and easeful.  The ebb and flow was rhythmic and predictable like breathing.  I felt comforted by the sound of the flow.  I can count on the flow of the water, my breath and life.  As I put structures in place to "ground" my intentions for 2013 in to action steps- reality, I am at ease.

Acknowledgment

A dear friend of mine suggested that I make a list of all the things I accomplished during my tenure on the Challenge Day Board.  Well, I did and it was AMAZING!  My list was quite long.  The most significant thing on the list was how many poeple were served while I was there.  Approximately 737.040 people participated in Challenge Days and community workshops during the 8 1/2 years I was there.  I take full responsibility for making a profound impact on the lives of all those people--what a blessing.

Commitment vs. Attachment

on Tue, 09/06/2011 - 23:05

I just completed a wonderful exercise where I could see/create being committed to a result versus being attached to it.  Think about it, there are times in our lives when we want something/someone so badly that we grasp on tightly; slowly or not slowly squeezing the life out of something.  This is attachment, desperation and completely coming from the past which is based on fear.  Commitment on the other hand is life-giving and full of possibilities.

It's Been A Long Time...

on Mon, 08/01/2011 - 18:50

Hello Everyone!  I've been so engaged in my life/exploration that I haven't taken the time to write on my blog.  I've been exploring what it means for me to be, "At choice" and what "Intimacy" means to me.  Choice is a powerful concept and one that I have found is not often explored.  There are people and organizations that say that encourage you to make choices and then when you make one they challenge it.  That doesn't seem fair.  What impacts one's choices?  Their past programming, current programming, fear, needs, expectations?  Maybe all of that.

11/18/10 NABSE Presntation

on Fri, 11/19/2010 - 06:32

My presentation entitled, "What's the Deal with Resilience Theory" went very well today.  There were nearly 110 people in attendance and all were engaged.  There was lots of sharing of ways in which folks have been actively being Protective Factors in their schools, families and communities.  Everyone seemed inspired by the sharing and the information they learned.  I thoroughly enjoyed myself and was inspired by what these educators are up to.

My 46th Birthday!

on Thu, 11/11/2010 - 18:05

Last week I celebrated my 46th birthday and it was phenominal.  I was surrounded by good wishes, presents, good food and people I love.  I felt completely honored, adored, seen/heard and loved.  My sense of gratitude for my life and the lives of others expanded.  There are so many wonderful opportunities being presented to me that I am overjoyed.  My wish for all of you is to experience a sense of renewal and abundance this year and always!  Blessings, Janet.

I will be one of the presenters at the "38th Annual NABSE" conference on November 18th in Fort Worth, TX.  I will be speaking on one of my favorite topics, "Resiliency," (stay in school, having at least one adult in their lives to consistently care for them and have high expectations for them).  I am honored that Mike Matt of Herff Jones invited me and is sponsoring my presentation.  I am grateful to be able to speak to specific ways to promote students staying in school. I'll keep  ya'll posted on how it goes.

Challenge Day is now on MTV

on Sat, 10/09/2010 - 02:15

That's right, not only have we been featured on "The Oprah Show", we now have a television show on MTV on Tuesday evenings entitled, "If You Really Knew Me."  The show provides insight into what Challenge Day is all about and the impact our work has on lives of young people. The ratings have been high with nearly 1.3 million people tuning in each week. Young people are our target audience, so this is a dream come true for us.
