About Me

I have a deep commitment to L.I.F.E. (Love, Integrity, Freedom and Ease) and have been expressing this commitment within the field of Education for over 20 years.

After obtaining a secondary teaching certificate in English and Communication and a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology, my career as an Educator began at a non-profit organization in Ann Arbor, Michigan, teaching at-risk teens expelled from school or placed in court-ordered treatment. My students were primarily minority teenagers, more focused on surviving their current circumstances than appreciating the value of education. I embraced this challenge and found that working with at-risk youth required not simply teaching academic skills, but providing a creative approach to meeting the needs of each individual child that enabled the child to excel both academically and personally. Creating resilient adults who were survivors —not victims — of their circumstances was the primary goal.

After I worked in Ann Arbor I joined a start-up charter school in Detroit. Being a part of a brand new school required new skills — curriculum and discipline policy development, peer mentorship and creative negotiation — as well a different approach to teaching. I also had the opportunity to work at Ypsilanti high schools as the disciplinarian who was responsible for in-school suspension, afterschool detention and credit recovery for graduating seniors. Being able to work closely with the kids who were most at risk and provide them with clear, consistent and rigorous expectations was very rewarding. In 2006 I made a move to East Bay area of Northern California. Here I have worked with students suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome at a continuation school. And, as Dean of Students at a secondary charter school, I had the privilege to provide emotional, academic and family support to a school with a predominantly minority student population.

My work with at-risk teens inspired me to create my own consulting business that utilizes my diverse background in education and my commitment to supporting others in obtaining their life goals. Whether I am being an academic coach to youth or supporting adults in pursuing their personal goals, it is my desire for everyone to experience freedom from the constraints in their lives so that they can live up to their fullest potential.
